Background & Personal Journey
To put it in my words, I’m Albo Verlice and everyone has their own take on my experience. Mine would be a rollercoaster of change, struggles within, and in my efforts to define myself the best way I knew how, all of this set in a world that feels doesn’t always get the memo.
To start, I have always struggled with the way I perceive myself because it’s so different from the world around me. Even though I was assigned male at birth, that's a gender I have never particularly identified with. After spending a number of years in male dominated spaces, indulging in masculine activities and keeping excessively active emotionally. Exploring my femininity wasn’t easy at first but eventually in the end satisfying. I have undergone several gender-affirming surgeries, each one bringing me closer to a body and identity that reflects my truth. During this phase, surgery after surgery made it much easier to finally accept myself.
It's unsurprising I tried to function ‘normally’ as a man for a while, but it was alway clear to me that was never the answer, a path that on the surface sounds appealing- and I grew to hate it more and more. Without sincere connection, which was, of course, impossible. I’m glad I’ve finally come to the conclusion that being a woman is what gives my life sense, and I can tell you let me assure you, that fact gives me immense pride.
Current Role & Community Support
At present, I am a member of Marabunta and I am exceptionally proud to be the first female leader in the history of the organization. This role is more than a position; it represents a milestone in history, the bravery of women, and community recognition. The Marabunta family has supported me tremendously during my transition and has granted me the respect and space needed to engage with the community on my own terms.
Of course, assuming any position of leadership is a privilege, but especially so for a woman. Every privilege brings with it new responsibilities, in my case, this is also an opportunity to support people struggling with identity issues and encourage them to own their truth.
Personal Vision and Future Plans
I am currently engaged with my boyfriend, Issac Cooper, who is as accepting and loving as they come. The bond that we share is deeper than one formed out of infatuation – it conveys the strength of acceptance and hope for a better tomorrow.
The fight is only beginning for me. I will persist by taking further steps towards gender-affirming surgical procedures till the point is reached where my physique correlates with my inner feelings. Additionally, I wish to empower many others through my experience and emphasize the need to accept one’s self for who they distinctly are; the act of being one’s self is courageous.
1. Identity is personal — and everyone deserves the right to discover and live out their truth without judgment.
2. Leadership is not about appearance, but authenticity and the ability to uplift others.
3. I refuse to let fear, stigma, or past hardship define who I am or the impact I make.truth without judgment.
